Flora Sam is Chief Scientific Officer of Imbria Pharmaceuticals. Prior to Imbria, Dr. Sam was Professor of Medicine at Boston University School of Medicine (BUSM), Director of the Whitaker Cardiovascular Institute, principal investigator of the Sam Lab, and served as a Staff Cardiologist at Boston Medical Center. She is a recognized expert in heart failure, cardiac myocyte biology, and mechanisms of myocardial remodeling. From 2000 through 2006, Dr. Sam was also the Director of Clinical Research for the Cardiomyopathy Program at BUSM. Dr. Sam received her M.D. from University of the Witwatersrand Medical School and received her postgraduate training in internal medicine at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center, Columbia University College of Physician and Surgeons. She then trained as a cardiologist at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital, Harvard Medical School, and received subsequent fellowship training in advanced heart failure and transplant at Boston Medical Center, BUSM, and at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School.
